The Girl (Her Real Name)
At only nineteen Lauren already has developed an incredible passion for music, both in and out of the theatre. An accomplished singer/songwriter, she would one day like to compose music for film. She is currently studying Community Services at the Tasmanian Polytechnic Skills Institute.
She has performed in numerous school productions over the years, including Our Town, Chicago (Rosny College), Fever and Urinetown (Elizabeth College). She also performed at the Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games as part of the renowned Gondwana Voices Choir. Most recently she was a member of the Ensemble in the Tasmania Theatre Unit Trust’s acclaimed production of Miss Saigon.
Nicholas King
Jones (Her Real Name)
Nicholas is a writer, actor, singer and musician who has appeared in a variety of roles in Hobart and surrounds. Most recent stage credits include the role of the Jury Bailiff in the Hobart Rep production of The Accused (2009), Ensemble roles in La Traviata (2009, Hobart Performance by Melbourne Opera), Les Miserables (2008, Tas Unit Theatre Trust), CATS (2007, Exit Left productions), Colonial Pictures (2007, IHOS Opera), as well as roles in the Tas Conservatorium of Music productions of Pal Joey, Aspects of Love, and A Class Act (2007).
Nick is a classically trained singer who has performed on the local circuit as a soloist with groups such as the Tasmanian Song Company, with other solo performance credits including the Hobart Carols by Candlelight ("Six White Boomers" - 2004), the Glenorchy Carols by Candlelight ("O Holy Night" - 2009), and a local production of Handel's Messiah ("Ev'ry Valley," A People's Messiah - 2009). Nick also spent a season as the primary vocalist for the Hobart City Swing Band (2004).
As a writer, Nick is an unpublished novelist (a fact that will soon be rectified!) of the fantasy work 'Stiller the Farling.' Nick is the primary lyricist for The Perfect Circle, having worked closely on the lyrics and book with Craig M Wood.
Craig Wood
Him (Ducks)
Craig is a Tasmanian-born Performer, Composer and Musical Director. He began performing in 1999 with the IHOS Music Theatre Laboratory, involving himself in premieres of more than fifteen new stage works.
In 2008 he had heavy involvement with the premieres of three new companies, The Tasmanian Theatre Unit Trust (Les Miserables), Tasmanian Theatre Company (Bombshells) and ACT (The Laramie Project). He has also worked for a variety of other companies around the state including Big Monkey Inc. (Once A Jolly Jumbuck, Robin Hood and His Merry Band), Terrapin Puppet Theatre (Remnants), is. theatre (Ten Wonderful Years), The Round Earth Theatre Company (A Bright and Crimson Flower), The Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music (including the Australasian Premiere of the Philip Glass and Allen Ginsberg opera Hydrogen Jukebox), IHOS Opera (Tesla: Lightning in His Hand, Sea Chant, Pentekostarion), The Tasmanian Opera Chorus, Daylight Robbery Theatricals (15 Years On Hold), Hobart Academy as well as a wealth of independent productions.
As a composer he has written various song cycles, songs and incidental music for various theatrical productions, adaptations of Philip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread and Lives Of The Great Poisoners for the Tasmanian Conservatorium and composed Ice Cold Words for the Antarctic Writers Festival 2006. He has written original scores for two original dance works, Odyssey’s End and Perfectly Secret and the score for At All, a short film by Kai Raisbeck. Also Remnants with Terrapin Puppet Theatre. He recently premiered three songs, Westward Sky, Lullaby for Cassie and C.S.P. live on ABC Radio and also co-hosted the 2009 Glenorchy City Carols with Andy Muirhead.
Future projects include Keating! The Musical and the 2010 Uni Revue with Old Nick Company, an as yet untitled theatrical song cycle with Nicholas King and anything else he can possibly fit into his days!
Nicole Simms
Her (Ducks)
Perhaps best remembered for her performances as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Rizzo in Grease, Cathy in The Last 5 Years and Maureen in Rent, Nicole's other musical theatre credits include the roles Ellen in Miss Saigon and Fantine in Les Miserables for the Tasmanian Theatre Unit Trust 2008 (Wellington) and the role of Jenny-Any-Dots for Exit Left's recent success CATS at the Derwent Entertainment Centre. Other stage credits include she Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd for Shouting in the Evening, Mary Jane Wilkes in Big River; Jasmin in Beware the Witches! (Melbourne Comedy Festival), Hope in Anything Goes, Alice in The Secret Garden, and the Plaintiff in Trial by Jury. Nicole has also performed in Guys and Dolls, Jesus Christ Superstar, Me and My Girl, Some Enchanted Evening and A Celebration of Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Non musical roles include Lucy in Stones in my Pathway (written by Tasmanian Playwright Tom Holloway),Verity in Find Me and Karen in It's my Party (And I'll Die If I Want To). A founding member of The Show Company, Nicole has performed a soloist at a variety of musical events including 1999 and 2000 City of Hobart Carols by Candlelight and the production of Handel's Messiah at the Stanley Burbury Theatre in 2001. She has performed cabaret-style with Chelle Burtt in Smoulder, and has been invited to perform at numerous conventions around the State including most recently the Australia Day Celebrations in Ulverstone and The Hobart Pride of Australia Awards. Nicole has also supported both Marina Prior and Michael Crawford on the Tasmanian legs of their respective national tours.
Nicole has appeared in local TV ads and recently filmed "Applehead" for Rebecca Thompson's Tropfest submission. Currently Nicole can been heard as part of local Swing/Blues band "The Ministry of Swing" with Kristian Byrne and Iestyn Parry.
Scott Farrow
The Young Man (A Perfect Circle)
Scott's honest portrayal of Jared in Blackrock and his acclaimed performance as heroin addict Mark Renton in Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting (Old Nick Company) confirmed his place as one of Hobart's finest actors. Scott has delivered many memorable performances since his stage debut at age 17 as Huck Finn in Big River at the Theatre Royal (Summerstock Theatre Company). Other early shows include Return to the Forbidden Planet, Sweet Charity, Don's Party, Our Town, Dimboola and the Hobart Rep Pantomime Sleeping Beauty.
Scott has since gone on to appear as Kenickie in Grease (Pierrot Productions), as the tortured musician Roger in RENT (ExitLeft), and in early 2007 Scott performed the role of the dim but charming orphan, Tobias Ragg in the critically acclaimed production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Shouting in the Evening). Scott was also cast as The Rum Tum Tugger in the arena spectacular Cats (ExitLeft).
In May 2007, Scott was fortunate enough to be able to live out a dream by performing the role of Jamie in the Jason Robert Brown musical The Last Five Years - a personal favourite of Scott's. This performance was extra special, as the producer-director of the production was Allison Farrow, Scott's sister, and he performed opposite his real-life partner, Nicole Simms.
Scott's most recent performance was for the Tasmanian Theatre Unit Trust in the sell-out season of Les Miserables in which he performed the role of the student revolutionary Enjolras. Also, in June of 2008 Scott was one of only 2 Tasmanians selected to travel to Sydney as one of the 'Top 100' vocalists in the country in the 2008 season of Australian Idol on Channel 10.
Charlea Edwards
Her (Opened)
Charlea Edwards is an experienced triple threat having performed as an Actor, Singer and Dancer in various forms and genres. She has a Bachelor of Music from the Tasmanian Conservatorium, majoring in Musical Theatre, which she completed in 2008. Her degree culminated in a half-hour solo, self-devised cabaret performance entitled Both Sides Now, including music from modern musicals and contemporary repertoire. She also has achieved medal standard in a diverse range of Ballroom Dance styles. Most recently she worked as the choreographer of Hobart Polytechnic/Academy's production of Footloose. She played an integral role in the creation and performance of Odyssey's End, an original dance work premiered in 2007 at the Peacock Theatre. Other musical theatre credits include Cats, Fame, Little Shop Of Horrors, Les Miserables, Songs For A New World, Inside Out amongst others. As a member of Theatre as Education she toured the south of the state in the production of Until You Say You Love Me. She has appeared as a concert soloist with various organisations including The Tasmanian Song Company. She has sung on the Hobart pub circuit as the lead singer of acclaimed local cover band, Manhattan.
Chris Hamley
Him (Opened)
Chris is a regular performer in local theatre, most recently in Once a Jolly Jumbuck for Big Monkey in the Botanical Gardens. In 2009, he played Horton the Elephant in Mainstage's Seussical the Musical, Ireland/Russia/Italy in JHR/Show Company's Eurobeat and proudly returned to teaching drama at Elizabeth College, directing the college musical Witches of Eastwick and The Laramie Project with his Performance class. There have also been appearances in many musicals and plays such as The Laramie Project, Les Miserables, Pinocchio, Grease, Oklahoma, Cosi and others. Chris has also directed two Hobart Summer Theatre Shows, Away, Blackrock and Aspects of Love among others. Coming up for Chris in 2010 is Keating! The Musical at the Theatre Royal in March and his third shot at directing Back to the 80's for Old Nick in September.
Sarah Jones
The Mother (A Perfect Circle)
Born in Tasmania, Sarah moved to Sydney in 2005 and completed a Master of Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. In 2009 Sarah appeared in Dido & Aeneas/Acis & Galatea for Opera Australia and as Clorinda/Tisbe in OzOpera's NSW School's production of Cinderella. She previously performed for the Schools Company as Bartola/Basilia in The Barber of Seville (2008) and as Queen of the Night/ Papagena/Lady in The Magic Flute (2007). Other engagements have included Vivaldi's Juditha Triumphans for Pinchgut Opera (2007) and the soprano solos in Bach's St John Passion for Bel A Cappella (2008).
Sarah has a strong music theatre background, having performed roles such as Annie in Chicago (Pierrot Productions Australia) and the title role in Patience (Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Tasmania). She appears regularly with ensembles such as Cantillation, Sydney Symphony, Musica Viva, Auckland Philharmonia, IHOS Opera and The Australian Tenors. Sarah has recorded for ABC Classic FM on numerous occasions, and can be heard on several CD releases from ABC Classics. She also features in Jonathan Mills' film The Eternity Man.
Sarah was a semi-finalist in the 2007 Mathy Awards, receiving the Tinkler Encouragement Award. She won the Grand Prize in the City of Sydney Song Awards at the 2006 McDonald's Performing Arts Challenge, and was a quarter-finalist in the McDonald's Operatic Aria in 2008 and 2009. She was also a finalist and winner of the David Allen Memorial Award at the 2008 National Liederfest. She has learnt from several wonderful teachers and coaches, including Helen Todd and Jane Edwards, and currently studies with Dr Rowena Cowley.
In January 2010, Sarah will premiere Con Koukias' chamber opera Kimisis - Falling Asleep for IHOS Opera as part of MONA FOMA. This will be followed by a national tour of FOX, a new children's music theatre piece, for Monkey Baa Theatre for Young People, coming to Tasmania in August 2010.
